Professor Said’s groundbreaking work transformed the field of international relations, challenging existing paradigms and upending decades of stale conventional wisdom with fresh perspectives and approaches. His prolific writing over more than half a century reflected this propensity for forward thinking and helped drive fundamental changes in how we all look at global politics today.

This section contains 125 of the hundreds of published works and lectures he produced between 1959 to 2013. They best represent his thinking – and its evolution – on a variety of issues, including international relations, US foreign policy, education, Islam, and peace and conflict resolution. Many of these publications added new dimensions to international relations by introducing subjects not previously considered part of the field, such as ethnicity, the role of multinational corporations, and the impact of the illicit drug trade on global politics. Dr. Said also offered a non-western perspective on issues such as economic development, decolonization, and democratization that few scholars had previously considered. Dr. Said approached a wide range of diverse topics, but there is a consistent theme that carries throughout much of his work: the critical importance of taking a humanistic approach to world affairs.
